Romance subgenres and a few authors to try within that subgenre:

  • Historical Romance¬†‚Äď That‚Äôs right, it‚Äôs romance that takes place in the past, most often in the American West, Medieval England and Regency England. Here are some authors to try¬†Mary Jo Putney,¬†Amanda Quick,¬†Beatrice Small.
  • Contemporary Romance¬†‚Äď These take place in the present and tend toward humorous and often suspenseful. (This is my favorite romance subgenre and the type of books I like to write.) Some authors to try would be¬†Jennifer Crusie,¬†Elizabeth Bevarly,¬†Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
  • Category Romance¬†‚ÄstThese romances are often shorter and written in series. Some authors to try would be¬†Suzanne Brockmann,¬†Elizabeth Lowell.
  • Futuristic and Fantasy Romance¬†‚Äď These romances are obviously written in the future or in an imaginary world. Some authors to try would be¬†Dara Joy,¬†Susan Grant.
  • Paranormal Romance¬†‚Äď You guessed it. These romances contain vampires, ghosts or other creatures. Some authors to try would be¬†Susan Krinard,¬†Christine Feehan.
  • Time Travel Romance¬†‚Äď Just like the name implies, these romances involve traveling in time. Some authors to try would be¬†¬†Lynn Kurland,¬†Sandra Hill.
  • Gothic Romance¬†‚Äď These are mostly romances of the past with authors such as Victoria Holt and Mary Stewart (I love these old ones!).
  • Romantic Suspense¬†‚Äď These books generally involve plots dealing with drug dealers, smugglers and stalkers. Some authors to try would be¬†Susan Anderson,¬†Tammy Hoag,¬†Melinda Leigh.

Book Review: Bella and the Beast

Bella and the Beast (Cinderella Sisterhood, #4)Bella and the Beast by Olivia Drake
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the first of the Cinderella Sisterhood series that I’ve read. I enjoyed the characters and the plotline of the romance. Bella and Miles had me rooting for them from the beginning and I couldn’t stand the opportunistic cousin and wife. I look forward to reading another and would recommend this series to others.

At The Stroke of Midnight

I loved this poem. I hope you will, too.

Syl65's Blog

Even if the new year steps in quietly

Quiet as cat’s feet

I will peer back into this year

Recalling how everything became stronger

This sense of life, this sense of being

Every joy, every pain amplified

Through it all

We remained constant

Now we prepare to light a candle for the new year

Not just looking to keep things intact

But to further deepen our sense of life together
